Remote Education

Cranleigh C of E's remote education plan demonstrates a consideration of any additional burdens that providing it may place on our families.

Work provided during periods of remote education is high quality, meaningful, ambitious, and covers an appropriate range of subjects to enable our pupils to keep on track with their education.

Remote education will be considered in the following scenarios:

- Where school needs to close or restrict attendance, or where school access for pupils is restricted

- In any individual case where a pupil is unable to attend school but is able to learn

Our provision:

A pupil’s first day or two of being educated remotely might look different from our standard approach while we take all necessary actions to prepare for a longer period of remote teaching.

Immediate remote education provision may include sending pupils home with workbooks or learning packs to complete independently in the first instance.

We will teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate. However, we may need to make some adaptations in some subjects; for example, where subject-specific equipment is required.

We may use the following online tools or digital platforms for lesson delivery and/or assessment:

We recognise that some of our pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education:

  • Loan one of a small number of laptops and/or headphones (following the signing of a home/school loan agreement)
  • Loan devices to ensure internet connectivity
  • Print materials which will be made available for collection from school

We use a combination of the following approaches to teach pupils remotely:

  • Recorded teaching (for example, Oak National Academy lessons, video/audio recordings made by teachers)
  • Printed paper packs produced by teachers
  • Textbooks and reading books pupils have at home
  • Commercially available websites supporting the teaching of specific subjects or areas, including video clips or sequences
Engagement and Feedback

We will check pupils’ engagement with remote education at least once per week via telephone/Teams calls

Where engagement is a concern, we will inform parents and carers via telephone or email.

Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children. For example, whole-class feedback or quizzes marked automatically via our digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others. Our approach to feeding back on pupil work is as follows:

  • Assessing work seen via email and via online quiz/platform responses and responding via the platform/email/telephone
  • Pupils will receive feedback on their work on at least a weekly basis
Support for pupils with additional needs

We recognise that some pupils, for example those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:

  • Provide social stories and visual timetables
  • Provide free, parental access to Widgit Online
  • Loan sensory aids to use at home
  • Ensure each pupil takes their 'Calm Box' resources home
